Dryer Care Recommendations

Doing laundry is probably part of the daily routine. But have you ever thought how important dryer care is in terms of your home’s safety? With a few simple safety tips, you can help prevent a fire in your dryer. It’s a fact that the number one cause of dryer fires is lack of cleanliness.

– Have your dryer installed and maintained by a professional.

– Do not use your dryer without a lint filter.

– Be sure to clean the lint filter before or after each load of laundry.

– Remove lint that has collected in the drum.

– Make sure that the vent pipe is not obstructed and that the exterior vent clapper is open when the dryer is in operation. Once a year, or more often if you notice that your clothes are taking longer to dry than usual, remove the lint from the vents or call service to do it for you.

– Keep your dryer in good working order. Gas dryers should be inspected by a qualified professional to ensure that gas lines and connections are intact and free of leaks.

– Make sure you use the correct plugs and sockets and that the machine is connected correctly.

– Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use and do not overload your dryer.

– Turn off your dryer when you leave the house or when you go to sleep.

And don’t forget that…

– Dryers must have a correct ground connection.

– Check that the exterior ventilation clapper is not covered with snow.

– Keep the area near your dryer free of objects that can catch fire such as boxes, cleaning supplies, clothing, etc.

– Clothes or rags that have been in contact with flammable substances such as gasoline, paint thinner or similar solvents must be dried outdoors and then washed and dried in the usual way.
